This all started the other day. I was on a site, PinoyBlogero.com. I don’t know how I found it exactly, but the word “Pinoy” stuck in my mind. I looked to the title of the site to find out what Pinoy means, but all it gave me was “A Pinoy Blogger focusing on the Pinoy Blogosphere and blogging.” I still didn’t know what Pinoy meant, but little by little, over the next few days, I’ve begun seeing it everywhere. Random things too like a Pinoy Cooking Blog or a Pinoy surfing site. The crux came today when I stumbled upon the PinoyRichJerk.com, a pinoy spoof of course of the ever famous Rich Jerk, a.k.a. the brilliant marketer Kelly Felix.
That was it, I had to hit wikipedia. Turns out, a Pinoy is someone from the Philippines. Fascinating! Keep an eye on plenty of up and coming Pinoy websites, soon to be heavily trafficked!

Follow-up comment rss or Leave a TrackbackIts funny, I noticed the same thing recently. I wondered if I had just not noticed before, or if it was a trend. Thanks for confirming it! See you around.
“Pinoy” is an informal term for the word “Filipino” or a person from the Philippines.
Our community is still very small but after a few more months, expect more of us to sweep the internet.
Thanks for taking some interest on our part of the blogosphere! Happy blogging!
… and a “Pinay” is the informal term for the female “Pinoy”.
I happen to be one. Have a great day!
Thank you so much for doing the research. I knew this but had not put the two together. Interesting tid bit.
I think its in your best interest that this not happen. Increasing awareness of Pinoy culture is a great thing, but “sweeping the internet”, I don’t know. I think nobody wants anyone or anything to sweep the internet. It would be like Zebra mussels taking over Lake Michigan (US) or like an invasion.
But I also think maybe, even as a Pinoy, you might not realize just how far your culture extends. For example, we in the US love you and consider you our good friends. You also have Charice Pempengco whose talent is spreading and opening more eyes to the culture.
There was also a really good song by the black-eyed peas and so much more that I hope you realize that Pinoy culture really is already spreading out and being more and more appreciated.
Cheers..
Sam
Having just visited, I think this is due to the following reasons:
1) English is widely spoken in the Philippines.
2) You have an educated population, or at least the upper levels are on a par with educated people in more developed countries.
3) The cost of living is much less. The threshold to make a living off a blog in the Philippines is much less than in the US.
I’d expect lots of Pinoy blogs in the future
I agree that the title sweeping the internet is a little off. You could change it to making waves, leaving a mark or something like that.
By the way, I am a proud pinoy.
Hey there.
I am another Pinoy blogger from the Philippines. Yes, our blogosphere’s population is still very small but its growing and growing exponentially.
